Shelter Medicine Academic Collaborative, a group including shelter veterinarians from UC Davis, University of Wisconsin-Madison,  University of Florida, and other organizations has released “Recommendations for monitoring and response to possible infections with avian influenza type A (H5N1) in cats for shelters, rescues, and access-to-care clinics,” a living Google document providing guidance around recent cases of H5N1 in felines. By outlining steps for proactive monitoring, isolation, and testing, the collaborative aims to prepare organizations to protect animal and human health and prevent potential influenza spread.
